HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 7 (ACN) Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobianin confirmed that Russia and Cuba are studying the creation of a Moskvich-branded cab service in two cities of the Caribbean nation.
As Sobianin wrote on his Telegram page on Sunday, the city of Moscow will undertake the development of joint projects with the Republic of Cuba, including the launch of a Moskvich-branded cab service in the city of Havana and in the resort town of Varadero.
Already in November last year, the Moscow City Hall announced that it will deliver 50 Moskvich vehicles to Cuba to create a cab fleet, according to Prensa Latina.
The Moskvich (in Cuba known as Moskovich) is a historical brand of the automotive industry of the Soviet period, just like the Volga or the Lada.
After the fall of the USSR, and for many years the French consortium Renault acquired the Moskvich factory and patent.
But in 2022, and due to Western sanctions Renault transferred its assets in Russia to the Russian state, and the Moscow authorities resumed production of Moskvich brand cars.
