MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The City of Myrtle Beach honored a member of the community Thursday.

“I am so elated that it’s hard to express,‘’ said Styers. ”Obviously, I knew this was happening, but I had no idea the immensity of what was going to happen and what was going to be said.

Styers, a Vietnam War veteran, grew up in Myrtle Beach and is known as one of the “founding fathers” of The Market Common. He was pivotal in the development of the area that was formerly an Air Force base before it shut down in 1993.

The ceremony was held between fields four and five near the batting cages on Emmens Avenue.
