Suspect charged for hit-and-run that left teen dead in Wilmington
A suspect has been charged for a hit-and-run crash that left a teenager dead in Wilmington, Delaware.

WILMINGTON , Del. (WPVI) -- A teenage girl was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Wilmington, Delaware.

It happened around 5 a.m. on Monday, at Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street.

The victim has been identified as 15-year-old Sa'riyah Patterson.

Action News has obtained surveillance video of the fatal crash. We stopped the video right before the moment of impact.

Video shows the vehicle barreling down what appears to be the wrong side of the street when the victim is hit.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Police say they found the vehicle in Bear, Delaware. The driver, who police identified as 22-year-old Elijah Davis, is charged with manslaughter and leaving the scene of a deadly crash.

A resident of the area says the crash woke her up.

"You know how somebody would try to stop, you hear [screeching nose]. It was nothing like that. It was just boom, glass shattering and that's it," said Latisha, who didn't want us to use her last name.

Neighbors say there are a lot of kids in the area and a school bus stop nearby.

"It's kids out early in the morning and teenagers going to school. Slow down! You shouldn't be in that much of a rush," Latisha said.
