The Botswana Nurses Union (BONU) has expressed deep concern over rising violence against nurses and healthcare workers in public health facilities.
This follows a recent knife attack on a nurse at Bokaa Clinic by a man posing as a patient. BONU President Peter Baleseng told Gabz FM News that there is an urgent need for improved security. He stressed that such violent incidents are not isolated and continue due to inadequate protective measures.
Baleseng further called on government to deploy professional security personnel at all public health facilities and recommends high risk clinics operate only during daylight hours.
He also urged for the introduction of psychosocial support and appointment of Nurse Managers to help address ongoing challenges.
